HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from an exciting wet qualifying session at Silverstone, as Sainz seals maiden F1 pole
On his 150th Grand Prix weekend, Carlos Sainz sealed his maiden F1 pole position, after producing a sensational final lap to pip Max Verstappen to the top spot at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.
Around a wet Silverstone circuit, Sainz set a late time of 1m 40.983s on the intermediate tyre to beat Verstappen by 0.072s. Verstappen – who had led both Q1 and Q2 – had his final run hindered by Charles Leclerc, after the Ferrari driver’s spin at Turn 14 brought out the yellow flags.
Despite the spin, Leclerc did enough to seal third place, his time 0.315s behind his Sainz, and he will start on the second row, alongside the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez, who qualified in fourth.
