F2: Bennett seals maiden victory in Spielberg with last lap overtake
John Bennett claimed his first FIA Formula 2 victory in the Spielberg Sprint Race with an overtake on the final lap.

John Bennett claimed his first FIA Formula 2 victory in the Spielberg Sprint Race after overtaking Sebastian Montoya on the final lap.
Starting in second, the TRIDENT driver took the lead from his PREMA Racing rival at the start and kept that position for the opening few laps.
However, Montoya was showing strong pace and retook the lead, with the two drivers then pulling away from their rivals as they battled for the win.
Having bided his time, Bennett pulled off a nice switchback move at Turn 4 on Montoya on the final lap to take the lead.
The British driver would go on to win the race, with Montoya in second. Van Amersfoort Racing’s Rafael Villagomez followed them across the line in third.
Alpine Academy juniors Alexander Dunne and Gabriele Minì were fourth and fifth for Rodin Motorsport and MP Motorsport, respectively.
Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy member Rafael Camara finished sixth for Invicta Racing, ahead of DAMS Lucas Oil driver Roman Bilinski, with Kush Maini taking the final point in P8 for ART Grand Prix.
That wraps up today’s FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race from Spielberg but you can read a full report on the official website here.
