Macau winner Ticktum joins Williams in development role

Two-time Macau Grand Prix winner Dan Ticktum has joined Williams as a development driver, having been previously dropped by Red Bull in 2019.
Ticktum will fulfil his new role while also driving in the 2020 Formula 2 championship, wearing the Williams academy logo on his DAMS F2 overalls and working with Williams and their race drivers Nicholas Latifi and George Russell at two Grands Prix next season.
“It is a privilege to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy, especially given Williams’ incredible heritage in our sport," said Ticktum. "The time in the simulator and experience working with the team will prove invaluable for my development.
“Being fully integrated into the operations will be a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to assisting wherever I can.”
The 20-year-old took victory in the 2017 and 2018 Macau GPs, finishing 13th this year. Runner-up in the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, he tested Red Bull's 2019 F1 car this season in Bahrain and Spain.
Claire Williams lauded his potential, referencing the brace of Macau GP wins, and added: “I am delighted that Dan, another exciting young British talent, has joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy. Dan’s technical expertise will prove invaluable to the team and we are looking forward to helping him grow and develop in 2020.”
