Sergio Perez to start US Grand Prix from the pit lane

Racing Point’s Sergio Perez had a triumphant home race in Mexico after finishing ‘best of the rest’ – but he’ll have his work cut out to score points in Texas having failed to stop to weigh his car in FP2.

Perez will start Sunday’s race from the pit lane, having been summoned to the Stewards to explain the incident after the second practice session at the Circuit of The Americas.

They reviewed video evidence and heard from Perez – but he was ultimately found to have failed to stop for the weighbridge in FP2.

“Instead, he drove on and proceeded to do a pit stop where the car was worked on by lifting the car and all four wheels were changed, in breach of Article 29.1 a,” read the Stewards’ statement.

“The penalty imposed is a mandatory penalty specified under the Formula One Sporting Regulations and the Stewards note that they have no discretion to impose an alternative penalty.”

Perez finished 15th in FP2 – ahead of Kimi Raikkonen – as Racing Point aim to overtake Toro Rosso in the constructors’ standings, both teams equal on points going into the US GP.
