TECH WEEKLY: Has McLaren’s secret weapon for the 2025 season been revealed?


Mclaren’s pace advantage in Melbourne for the opening race of the season was notably enhanced the longer the stint went on. It was very apparent that it was retaining its rear tyre performance longer than any other car.
Rival team boss Christian Horner, having watched the McLarens increase their gap over Max Verstappen’s Red Bull from 5s to 15s between laps 17-25, commented: “The McLaren is a very balanced car… When you have a car which is so well balanced the whole world looks different. It’s in a very sweet spot.”
