Verstappen to take gearbox grid drop

After his suspension issues on Saturday, Max Verstappen’s US Grand Prix prospects have taken another hit with news of a late gearbox-change grid penalty.
Verstappen picked up right-rear suspension damage early in qualifying after running wide over kerbs at Turn 15, ending the session in 15th place.
With damage to the gearbox a distinct risk given the nature of the incident, Red Bull opted to swap it out – resulting in a five-place grid drop for the unscheduled change.
In reality he should only drop three places to 18th, as both Toro Rossos are required to start from the back due to multiple power unit element changes.
Last year in Austin, Verstappen came from 16th on the grid to finish fourth.
