WATCH: Ride onboard with the key protagonists for the Safety Car restart at the British Grand Prix
For the audience at home and in the grandstands, the Lap 43 Safety Car restart at the British Grand Prix was the beginning of one of the most entertaining passages of racing so far this season – but what was it like for the drivers?
After the Safety Car – caused by Esteban Ocon stopping on track – bunched up the field, it was a fight to the chequered flag to decide the winner and the podium places between Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez.
As Sainz immediately made a move past his team mate at the restart, Perez went down the inside of Hamilton. However, the action did not stop there, as Leclerc, Hamilton and Perez intensely fought for the final podium places.
In the video above, you can ride onboard with the quartet to relive moments like Hamilton’s double overtake, as well as Leclerc’s move around the outside of Copse. You can also witness the action from the point of view of Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris behind, as they looked for an opening to pounce on their rivals in front.
