WATCH: Ride onboard with Verstappen for his magical pole lap amid the drama in Baku
Max Verstappen came out on top at the end of a dramatic, incident-filled Qualifying session in Azerbaijan.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen underlined his greatness once more by pulling a lap out of the bag to claim pole position at the end of a red flag-filled Qualifying session for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
After various incidents through Q1 and Q2, the decisive Q3 phase was stopped twice when Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and then McLaren’s Oscar Piastri hit the wall amid drops of rain, leaving Carlos Sainz on a shock provisional pole for Williams.
However, when the session restarted with just a few minutes to run, Verstappen produced some more magic to work his way down to a 1m 41.117s in the slippery, tricky conditions and move half a second clear of Sainz.
