Having qualified a disappointing 17th for his home race (which became 16th when Pierre Gasly received a grid penalty), Williams's Lance Stroll made an electric start in Canada - but in fewer than six corners all his work was undone...
It's a short run down to Turn 1 at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, but in that time Stroll managed to dive between the bright orange McLarens of Stoffel Vandoorne (to his left) and Fernando Alonso (to his right). A brilliant exit from Turn 2 then lifted the Canadian past Brendon Hartley's Toro Rosso and into P13, before a compromised run through Turn 4 - in which he encountered Romain Grosjean's sluggish Haas - put the New Zealander right back on his tail and searching for a way through. The rest, as we know, is history...
